OpenGuessr uses a peer2peer connection system via WebRTC Datachannels. Follow these steps to ensure a smooth experience:

Disable VPNs or Proxies: Certain VPNs or Proxies, often browser extensions, block WebRTC connections.
Disable Firewalls: Some people use firewall apps, have restrictive firewall settings or use wifi routers with strict built-in firewalls that block WebRTC.
Check if the TURN servers are online: We use turn servers from fastturn. You can check whether they are online on their website.
Check if your browser supports WebRTC: Open chrome://webrtc-internals/ in a Chromium browser or about:webrtc in Firefox.

If multiplayer still does not work after following these steps, consider using a different wifi such as your phone's cellular data hotspot for your internet connection or switch the host.
